One of the objective for me during my recent trip to Beijing is to scout for Jiao Zi Skin. Beijing is very famous for it's Jiao Zi and i naively thought that i should be able to get it from Beijing.
I ask the local and realised that they dont sell Jiao Zi skin, not even in supermarket. I was quite disappointed. However, on the last day of my trip, my local tour guide brought us to a food court and highly recommended one of the food stall to us that sells Jiao Zi. Indeed, the Jiao Zi is very tasty. And in that moment of desperation, i ask the counter lady if she is willing to sell me some Jiao Zi skin. Perhaps she was touched by my enthuasistic, she decided to sell me some at RMB 0.10 each. Happily, I brought 20 pcs of them to try. Also, wanted to share with my cooking buddy, cass. That day, i left Beijing with so much anticipation to make my first "lazy" jiao zi.
Only managed to try out the jiao zi after several days later cos' i was sicked. As a result, some of the skin does not seem too "fit" for consumption. I only managed to try some and throw some away. What a pity. In any case, eating the Jiao Zi brought me a lot of memories of my recent trip with my parents. The only difference is ..perhaps my Jiao Zi would taste better with green chilli
Tips from Episode 8:
1. The texture between Jiao Zi skin and Wanton skin is different. Hence, it will affect the timing of cooking the Jiao Zi
2. Marinate the Jiao Zi filling longer in fridge
3. Should have use more Yellow Beans to add sweetness to the soup base
4. Do not throw away the prawn shell. It can be added in to form the soup base
