Mel_@_ Wok Episode 3 - Beef Bowl

Have caught a flu recently and losing my appetite. So sicked of eating porridge and have told my dad that i have craving for beef. And hence, my dad brought me to the nearest supermarket and brought some beef so that i can do a DIY beef rice bowl. Really crazy for japanese food esp with that irresistable teriyaki sauce. I had such a good time savouring the beef that i feel that my flu bug are gone already. Praise the Lord !!!

Tips from Episode 3 - the beef would taste better if it is sliced thinner and marinated longer

My Valentine's Day Gifts (from clock wise - pm lunch box from justina, a heartshaped cake pan, a rose, a heartshape cake from KL and a cookery book from Tracy) Posted by Picasa

Love is in the Air - E most romantic day of the year !!!

Guess what I got for Valentine’s day today ? All from my best friend - a heart shaped cake and mould from my best friend - KL. She knows that I love to bake and wanted to fulfil my dream to bake a heartshaped cake for the man I love. A baking book from my dearest sista – Tracy. A lunch box from my best friend - tina. She knows i love precious moment. I promise to make her and our fellowship friends some cookies. And also, a stalk of ROSE from a secret admirer...Anyway, I am touched and feel this love from all of my dearest friends. Thanks KL, Justina and Tracy. If you happen to see this blog. I wish you happiness this day and always !!!

Who says V day are only meant for couples ?? Or rather, everyone should celebrate this day, be it friends, lovers, siblings or even our parents. It is a day make to celebrate and send love across

I have two most memorable V day that I would still remember even until this day.

This dated back to my secondary school days. I rec’d the first bouquet of flowers from a very good friend of mine – Luke. It was really a pure and sincere friendship gesture and I was really, really touched. Really treasure this good friend of mine. And I sincerely wish that he found his true and only love.

The other was during my poly days. My eldest brother give me a V day surprise with a limited edition cupid swatch watch. He quietly placed it on my bed and I got such a huge surprise when I woke up that day. Can’t wait to show off to my classmate that I got such a lovely brother. And indeed was very blessed to have such a romantic and fabulous brother.

This V day I think of someone – whom is none other than my eldest brother – Siang Keng and my dearest mum. Wishing them good health and love always !!!!

Mel_@_Wok Episode 2 - Tiramisu

This is the one and only dessert that i am so proud of. I would say mel signature dessert - e Tiramisu. I learnt this from a university mate in UK many years ago. And it is the most hassle free dessert that i have ever embarked on and yet taste so heavenly even without baking. Finally, had the chance to try it again cos' i was invited to a friend's house warming tiramisu was my friend's favourite. Thanks to Ni-san that i can present to you my favourite dessert :)

Tips from Episode 2 - remember to add more sugar to the mixture.
Not to "over coat" the finger biscuit.
Last but not least, do sprinkle the coco powder only after refrigerated.

Strawberry Sponge Cake Posted by Picasa

Pure and Mere Joy of Cakes !!!

I got this flux of baking impulse from that special someone i love. :)
The famous quotation : the way to the man's heart is thro' the stomach. And i guess that still hold true even in this era. It is definitely my dream to bake a birthday cake for the one i love. However, the wish never materalised but i never regret taking up a baking class. It was a pure joy to attend baking class. And the cakes were simply heavenly. Attached above a picture of my favourite cake - Strawberry shortcake :) Oh yes, and because of this wish, i have invested in a "BRANDED" blender. Well, i still have time to master this baking skill and make my dream come true right :)

The Chinese New Year Cookies

Wanted to impress my mum this year by baking some chinese new year cookies. I took up some crash course in baking at the neighbourhood CC and did my first trial of cookies with much excitement and anticipation. My family have been very supportive, even though the cookies didn't turn out well as per my expectation, everyone finished it off without any complaints. They are always the best :)

My Tea Eggs Posted by Picasa

Mel_@_ Wok Episode 1 - 茶叶蛋

It all started with my best friend whom handed me with a sachet of the tea bag. And i was v enthusastic to try my first hassle free cooking since many years ago. Why not. Finally the slow cooker comes into handy. (Thanks to a great mum who knows what should a great kitchen be equipped with). The result went well, with many thanks to my best friend for her cooking tips. I m now all set to go for my next cooking attempt. I didn't know that cooking basic stuff like eggs is not really that easy at all. The tea eggs have to be slimmered in that slow cooker for 3 days 3 nights for the favour to seep into....it trains my patience as well. :)

Tips from Episode 1 : Do not crack the eggs too much else the shell will drop off when the eggs are slimmered in the process.
Remember to add soya sauce to add more favour.
Last but not least, Slow Cooker need to be turn "high" to maintain that favour....

Many thanks to my brave guinea pigs (in no particular order) : KL, Brother Will, Baking Bud - Cass, Winnie, Tracy and KW.

Hurray !! My first blog :)

FINALLY !!! my first blog is up... I must attribute this to one very important sister-in-christ, Cassandra aka Cass. She has been my very faithful cooking cum baking buddy. Without her words of widsom and encouragement, i wonder when i am going to start this blog. hahaha. I have been wanting to take an opportunity to thank her for sharing her cooking tips with me. She is my inspiration to start this Mel @ Wok blog going. Hey Cass, if you happen to read this, many thanks !!!
